This course is a (for MS use “related arts” for HS use “humanities”) elective. Students will study the Bible academically, not devotionally, learning about the Bible and its role in society, literature, and history. At no point will the student be asked to practice any form of religion or adhere to any faith or doctrinal creed. The course of study will explore the ancient culture and context of biblical writings, discussing various religious views associated with the biblical text, but not endorsing any specific viewpoints. Students will learn to apply different literary genres to help them understand what is happening in the text, but students will not be asked to conform to any specific beliefs tied to various biblical interpretations. Students will also examine major historical events as accounted in the text, as well as the broader uses of the Bible as an influential piece of literature throughout world history.
