Dear Brown Middle School family,

We are excited to welcome your son/daughter to the Brown Middle School National Jr. Beta Club. National Beta is a service club dedicated to helping others and building strong leaders. It is truly an honor and a testament of your commitment to their academic success, and for this we want to congratulate you too. Your student was nominated by a panel of teachers and administrators, which was based on character, grades and a drive for academic excellence.

There are a few requirements of which we must make you aware. As in all areas of life with privileges there comes accountability and trust. Membership in the Junior Beta Club is a privilege and not a right. Therefore, members are required to maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average and an “S” for conduct in all classes. If a member fails to meet these requirements, they will be placed on probation until the following report card. If a 3.5 average and “S” in conduct are not achieved, that member’s Beta status will be revoked.

Important to note as well, membership dues are $50.00 per member; this includes a T-shirt, certificate and a membership pin. Funds must be received either online or with cash/check by September 1, 2019. Beta members are required to attend bi-monthly meetings (occurring twice per month) on Mondays, from 2:30 – 3:30. Parents are required to provide transportation and to be punctual upon pick-up.. Along with attending meetings, members will be required to have a minimum of 10 community service hours by the end of the school year, many of which will be acquired as a club.

8th grade members are strongly encouraged to attend the annual Junior Beta State Convention in Nashville, Tennessee at the Opryland Hotel. This opportunity will not be extended to 7th graders this year.  At the state convention we will be competing against Junior Beta Clubs from across the state of Tennessee. A few categories are: Spelling Bee, Photography, Sketching, woodworking competition and Poster competition (just to name a few). Most of our first semester will be spent preparing for state competitions. The students are exposed to this enriching experience each year, and we are excited to share this with your student. This will also require students to stay after school to prepare. The cost of this trip is approximately $120. We’ll provide exact figures closer to the travel dates as well as fundraising efforts to assist with the cost.

Last of all, please note that all recommendations for membership as well as termination of membership is decided by the principal and sponsors; however, all final club decisions are made by Principal Williams. Each member will be provided with a copy of the club bylaws and a calendar of events.

Congratulations, and welcome to BETA! The Beta Club Sponsors
