National Junior Honor Society

Dear Brown Middle School family,

We are excited to welcome your son/daughter to the Brown Middle School National Junior Honor Society.  The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.  It is truly an honor and a testament of your commitment to their academic success, and for this we want to congratulate you too.  Your student was nominated by a panel of teachers and administrators, which was based on character, grades and a drive for academic excellence. NJHS members can prepare for high school, plus whatever comes their way after graduation. We tell our members: Honor Your Future Now. And that's exactly what we help them do!

There are a few requirements of which we must make you aware. As in all areas of life with privileges there comes accountability and trust.  Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is a privilege and not a right.  Therefore, members are required to maintain at least a 3.75 grade point average and an “S” for conduct in all classes.  If a member fails to meet these requirements, they will be placed on probation until the following report card.  If a 3.75 average and “S” in conduct are not achieved, that member’s Honor Society status will be revoked.

Important to note as well, membership dues are $25.00 per member; this includes a T-shirt, certificate and a membership pin.  Funds must be received either online or with cash/check by Tuesday, September 20, 2016.   Honor Society members are required to attend bi-weekly meetings (occurring twice per month) on Wednesdays, from 2:30 – 3:15.  Parents are required to provide transportation and to be punctual upon pick-up.  Along with attending meetings, members will be required to have a minimum of 10 community service hours by the end of the school year, many of which will be acquired as a club. These hours will be able to overlap with the service hours from Jr. Beta Club.

There will be a ceremony on Tuesday, September 20 at 6:00 P.M. to induct all members into the National Honor Society.  Family members are invited to attend this prestigious event.  Details and a formal invitation are forthcoming.  In the meantime, please mark your calendars.

Last of all, please note that all recommendations for membership as well as termination of membership is decided by the principal and sponsors; however, all final club decisions are made by Principal Williams. Each member will be provided with a copy of the club bylaws and a calendar of events.  These will also be available on the school website under the National Honor Society page.

Congratulations, and welcome to the National Junior Honor Society!
