Our mission is to ensure that children are presented with lessons appropriate to their age and real-world related activities that extend and challenge student thinking.
Vision
The vision of Brown Middle School is to ensure that all students are prepared for their high school experience and will be productive citizens in the future because of the instruction and guidance we have provided. Our staff is dedicated to achieving this vision by promoting learning, creativity, diversity and self-confidence causing our students to grow into productive members of the global community.
General Information
Breakfast is served daily from 6:45 – 7:05.
Students may enter from the car rider line (in the upper parking lot by the gym) as early as 6:45 but may not enter through the front doors until 7:05.
Students should arrive at school by 7:05 am each day.
School Start Time: 7:15 am (teachers are on duty at 6:45 am to receive students)
Student safety is very important to us.
School doors remain locked throughout the day. You must ring the doorbell to be admitted to the building, and report directly to the school office.
ID is required to go past the Main Office.
No early dismissals after 1:30pm.
School dismisses at 2:15 and students not participating in after-school activities should be picked up no later than 2:30.

History of Brown Middle School
J.B. Brown Junior High School first opened for the 1967-68 school year. It was dedicated on Sunday, November 5, 1967, and it was was the first round school building in Hamilton County. Mr. Henry C. Colston was the school’s first principal; Mr. W. Frank Conger was the school’s first assistant principal.
The school is named for J.B. Brown who was a former teacher, principal, and superintendent in the Hamilton County School System. He served as superintendent for 3 months in 1903, and then from 1907-1913. Later he became the Tennessee State Superintendent of Schools and a trustee of the University of Tennessee.
The school became a middle school in 1974, and the name was changed to Brown Middle School.
