Brown Middle School

Announcements

January 30 - February 3

  • School Choice Applications are still available until tomorrow, Tuesday, January 31st.  To apply for a spot for your student, visit your Parent Portal on PowerSchool. On the left-hand column, there will be a link for Lottery, as well as a link for other schools in the district. Click on the link you're interested in, and it will show you the schools that have availability for your student. Lottery schools such as CSLA, CSAS and STEM (as well as others) have bus transportation available at many spots around the county, but other schools have no bus transportation, so you must be able to take your child to school and pick him/her up every afternoon if you apply at a non-lottery school.
  • Car riders should be dropped off at the gym each morning before 7:05. Students who are dropped off in front of the school before 7:05 will have to wait outside until we open the front doors each morning. For everyone's safety, we have separate locations to drop-off, preventing cars and busses from navigating around each other. Our car line moves very quickly, and students enter directly into the gym.
  • Students spoke and we listened!  This Wednesday - the ½ day - we WILL be offering Krispy Kreme donuts for $1 each.  If this goes well, we will continue to sell them on Wednesday mornings for the remainder of the school year.

This week in sports:

  • 2/2 - Volleyball at Dalewood - 4:30 Junior Varsity and 5:30 Varsity

Looking Ahead:

  • Baseball practice starts 2/13.  If you have not gotten a sports physical for this school year, you will need one before try-outs.  Exact dates for try-outs will be announced next week. In the meantime, interested students should see Coach Richardson

Important upcoming events:

  • 2/1 will be a ½ day for students.
  • 2/15 - Student Led Conferences 2:30-6pm
  • 2/20 - Presidents' Day - no school
  • 2/28 - Showcase of Learning & Black History Celebration Night

Reminders:

  • Being on time and ready for learning is so important for success. Locker time is 7:05-7:14. Students are tardy if not inside classrooms at 7:15.
  • All distractions, such as smart phones and watches, should be left at home or put in lockers at 7:05. Please understand that we will continue to take them for 3, 5 and 10 days as stated by the District if they are seen with students.
  • Remember that we have tutoring for all students who need additional support with learning. Opting out of assignments is not acceptable. Students should stay after school and get those assignments completed, and parents can pick them up at 4:30.

Thank you for all your support! Everything we do is to give our students a Future Without Limits!

Behavior Reminders:

  • Evening School begins 01/17 and will be Monday - Thursday, 2:30pm - 5:00pm. Evening School is for students who could be suspended, but we are making another effort to keep them in school and ensure they get support to get work completed and keep grades up. Students assigned to Evening School DO NOT come to school during regular hours 7:15-2:15.
  • Extended School is offered the same hours as Evening School. It is assigned to students for various reasons and means students DO come to school all day and remain for another 2.5 hours due to a repeated or unacceptable behavior.
  • Saturday School dates are listed below. 8:00 to 11:00am Saturdays. These days are only assigned to students for repeated tardies to class (4 or more) throughout the day or repeated dress code violations. The Saturday School schedule is listed below.
    • February - 4, 11, 25
    • March - 4, 11, 18, 25
    •  April - 15, 22, 29
    •  May - 6, 13, 20

Special Events:

  • Wonderful Wednesdays - We will be offering special snacks and food for purchase on Wednesdays to give students some special choices of food other than the cafeteria one day a week.  This will also help us raise money for special community events and celebrations.

Parents and/or visitors wishing to speak with an administrator or our Dean of Students should  make an appointment.  The administration team has many responsibilities during the day, and in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff, guests will need to contact the front office at 423-344-1439 and speak to the BMS secretary to set up an appointment.  We hope this will help us make better use of your time as well, and allow us time needed to prepare for the meeting as well as educate your child and talk to our teachers. We appreciate your cooperation as we all strive to make Brown Middle School the best middle school in Hamilton County.
